# About helm

Most people are far more capable than the property industry gives them credit for. Selling a home has been wrapped in complexity, opacity, and incentives that do not always line up with yours. helm exists to strip those barriers away, so selling your own property is a genuine option rather than a leap of faith.

## Why we built this

The average property sale in Australia costs around $25,000 in agent commission, and most take six to ten weeks from listing to settlement. Along the way, sellers are often kept at arm's length from the information that would let them make confident calls.

This is not a story about agents being the problem. A good agent earns their fee. The problem is the artificial information gap that turns using one into a reflex rather than a choice. The listing tools, market information, and negotiation that sit behind that gap are not magic. They just needed to be put in the hands of the people doing the selling.
